The Cleveland Browns are on their bye week after losing to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 9. Like every bye week, general manager Andrew Berry addresses the media at this time.

It has been a disappointing 2-7 season to this point for the Browns, and they waved the white flag on competing this year by making a move yesterday at the trade deadline. A lot of the talk was about quarterback Deshaun Watson and the quarterback position in general. Berry faced numerous questions with a chance to elaborate on the Browns process, but he went around it as he usually does.

At this point, it has become blatant that the Browns making the trade with the Houston Texans to acquire Deshaun Watson has been a failure. It is right there as the worst trade ever in the NFL and it is very loud right now.

Berry was asked if the trade for Watson was a good one and he instead went around it.

"I'm really not in reflection mode,” the Browns general manager said. “It's really not my focus at this point in the year. It's really on finishing out the 2024 season, having the team play at a higher level."

It is clear that making the move for Watson is a failure and for the Browns to at least not take some responsibility and acceptance is an interesting one.

Watson has played 19 games with the Browns and is 9-10 as the team’s starting quarterback. He has career-low numbers across the board including a 61.2 completion percentage and just 177 yards per game passing. Between the suspension, shoulder injury, and now Achilles injury, Watson hasn’t played in more than seven games in a season while with the Browns.

As far as there being a possibility that the Browns will have him as their starting quarterback again:

“Yeah, I think that’s always possible.”

Cleveland’s offense is right there as the worst in the NFL and they are a 2-7 football in large part because of it. The Browns are 28th in scoring at 16.4 points a game and they are 30th in yards per game at 300.

"I would say more broadly, we haven't played well as a team and we haven't played well enough as an offense,” Berry said.

There will come a time when Berry, or someone else will have to admit for the Browns that the Watson trade was a bad one. Don’t expect this to come until Watson is off of the team, whenever that may be
