Cleveland Browns have had a rough couple of weeks with the injury bug and it has bit again.
Four more players went down with injuries in their second preseason game against the Washington Commanders.
It was WR Elijah Moore who exited with a rib injury, while LB Jacob Phillips and CB A.J. Green exited with an apparent shoulder injury. Bubba Bolden, an undrafted safety in his second season, went down with a hamstring injury.
X-rays on the ribs of Moore came back negative, a good sign after fearing he could potentially have a broken rib. The newcomer wideout for the Browns took a hand-off for 18 yards and had one catch for six yards. Cleveland is going to be versatile with their usage of Moore this season.
When asked if he will practice this coming week in joint practices with the Philadelphia Eagles, head coach Kevin Stefanski said, “We’ll see”.
It is unclear at this point of the extent the shoulder injuries for Phillips and Green. Phillips is a player that has struggled to stay healthy in his previous three seasons, he’s had each cut short. It’s hard to see Phillips as a lock to make the team at this point due to the injury history.
Green will be depth for the Browns at cornerback once again and he’s been a player they’ve liked the last couple of years. The hope has to be neither injury is too serious.
Bolden’s hamstring issue is another one that has no word on the severity. Bolden is a far shot to make the roster but a player Cleveland could look to get to the practice squad. Against the New York Jets, Bolden had an interception to help his cause.
Last week it was the Browns losing edge rushers Alex Wright and Isaiah Thomas against the Jets. Then, RB Jerome Ford went down in practice with a hamstring injury that has him week-to-week.
Injuries are part of the game they play but the Browns are being hit pretty hard at an untimely part of the preseason where they identify the back-end of their roster.
