Week 7 back on their home field did not go as the Cleveland Browns planned. Cleveland was handed a 21-14 loss by the Cincinnati Bengals in AFC North play and now sits at 1-6 on the season.
Any chance at the playoffs is so far off in the distance that they are no longer realistic. Cleveland will either ride with Jameis Winston or Dorian Thompson-Robinson after the season after losing Deshaun Watson to an Achilles injury.
Things were not all bad for Cleveland against the Bengals. There were a few players worth mentioning as bright spots.
WR Cedric Tillman
Sunday was by no means perfect for Tillman, who was partially responsible for one of Thompson-Robinson’s interceptions. Still, it was easily the best day Tillman has had in a Browns uniform. With Amari Cooper no longer on the team, the Browns needed someone to step up and the first guy was Tillman.
The second-year wideout caught six passes for 81 yards and had 12 targets, the most from any of the wideouts. Only wide receiver Jerry Jeudy took more snaps at wide receiver than Tillman. The Browns need to really see what they have in Tillman and the last 10 games will give them that chance.
TE David Njoku
Week 7 against the Bengals was the best game of the year for Njoku to this point. Cleveland has not done a good job of getting Njoku the ball this season when he’s been healthy, but that was not the case against Cincinnati.
Njoku was targeted a team-high 14 times and made 10 catches for 76 yards and a touchdown. It was just the fourth game of the season for Njoku and he looked like the Pro Bowl player that he was last season.
DE Isaiah McGuire
Cleveland needs edge depth to step up with Alex Wright sidelined for the year. That gives McGuire a chance to get more snaps and he made the most of it against the Bengals. McGuire made six tackles, one tackle for a loss, and a half sack against the Bengals. If the former SEC pass rusher can produce like that, the Browns will have to get him on the field more.
