The Browns traded OT Leroy Watson to the Tennessee Titans for a seventh-round pick, which now puts the Browns at six draft picks.
Heading into the draft, the Browns need to be prepared to check these three things off.
Offensive line depth
Cleveland likely tipped their hand that they would be drafting an offensive tackle by trading away Watson, who was a developmental piece for the Browns. With the recent health of Jack Conklin and the uncertainty of Jedrick Wills Jr.’s future in Cleveland, the Browns need to continue to add talent.
Adding a guard is a possibility for the Browns too. Joel Bitonio isn’t getting any younger and Wyatt Teller is one they will have to think about extending again before long. Cleveland has long invested heavily in the offensive line and that shouldn’t change.
Defensive tackle depth
Cleveland handed out multiple one-year deals on the interior of their defensive line to Quinton Jefferson, Maurice Hurst, and Shelby Harris. Last draft cycle, the Browns took Siaki Ika, who will remain a run-plugging project for them.
This go around, the Browns should be looking for a player that thrives as a pass rusher on the interior. I’ve been loud that they need to target area-native and Ohio State product Mike Hall Jr. to be just that guy. Eventually, the Browns can find their own guy(s) in the middle that could be longer-term pieces next to Dalvin Tomlinson, then they can move past the multiple one-year flyers.
Drafting a wide receiver
Cleveland has made a big move at wide receiver this offseason by trading for Jerry Jeudy from the Denver Broncos and that shouldn’t be the only move they make. With just Jeudy under contract past this season between the top three wideouts, the Browns need to continue adding talent to the room.
The Browns can extend Amari Cooper and they should, the same could be said about Elijah Moore if the season goes well. Passing up on a wide receiver in what is a really good class would be silly. Cedric Tillman was the selection last year and he didn’t do a whole lot until the end of the year when he began to come on. The 2024 season can be a step forward in the development of both Tillman and David Bell. Adding another young wideout to the team would be ideal roster-building.
