If the season were to end today, the Cleveland Browns would hold the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. That is a big difference from where the Browns would have guessed they’d be picking just a few months ago.
Things have gone as bad as they can for the Browns and they have a 2-8 record to show for it. On the season, the Browns have wins over the Jacksonville Jaguars and Baltimore Ravens, and that is it. Deshaun Watson was once again lost for the season and multiple other injuries have hit the Browns hard.
Cleveland will finally have a first-round pick in the upcoming draft after giving their last three to the Houston Texans. In Ryan Roberts’ latest mock draft, the Browns address their biggest need.
Browns select Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders No. 3 overall
If the Browns can get Sanders with where they pick in the upcoming draft, I would do it. In fact, Sanders is the only quarterback that I would feel comfortable taking in the first round. The most accurate passer in the draft does a great job of playing on time and staying in Tyreek. Sanders has the ability to make all the throws on the field and is a competitor.
“Calling the Deshaun Watson tenure in Cleveland a failure would be a massive understatement. They get a reset here with Sanders, who is the most accurate quarterback in the class.” – Ryan Roberts, A to Z Sports
The Browns need to move on from Watson and whether that means sitting him on the bench or cutting him and eating money has yet to be seen. Cleveland will have to make those decisions in the offseason, but the last three seasons have shown everything they need to see with the current starter.
Watson’s inability to be available is one problem, him being the worst quarterback in the NFL when he is on the field is the other. Cleveland took a big swing with the trade and missed badly. There is no other way to put it.
Cleveland may end up having to wait until 2026 to really address the position, but if they can get Sanders in 2025 that should be the move.
