The Cleveland Browns are 2-2 going into the week off. They have one of the best defenses in football and one of the worst offenses in football. The Browns will need some consistency going forward.
General manager Andrew Berry met with the media on Wednesday to address things at the bye. Berry challenged both the offense and defense.
Cleveland is losing the turnover margin to start the season and they’ve lost it in each of their four games. With the Browns still being 2-2, that’s something that will continue to allow them to be a .500 or even winning team.
“We’ve turned the ball over 10 times this season and we’ve lost the turnover battle in all four games we’ve played,” said Berry. “That’s not a sustainable way to win football games in the NFL.”
Dorian Thompson-Robinson threw three interceptions last week in the loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Deshaun Watson has two fumbles lost and two interceptions himself. Coming out of the bye week, the No. 1 thing for the team is ball security Berry said.
On defense, the Browns are allowing the least yards (220) and are fifth in points allowed (15). Teams are converting just 22 percent of their third downs, that number leads the league.
“Defensively we’ve been very good. I’d like to give a ton of credit to Jim (Schwartz) and our defensive staff, Berry spoke.
With four games played, things are only going to get tougher. Next up for the Browns is the San Francisco 49ers, just one of the tough offenses coming up. Despite the tough start, Berry still has a challenge for the Browns.
“Our challenge coming out of the bye will be to have the appropriate punches as teams adjust to what we’ve done earlier in the season.”
Cleveland has to get healthy over the bye and they’ll likely welcome Watson back in Week 6. It’s going to start with a physical 49ers team after the break, so the Browns will have to be more than ready.
Jedrick Wills Jr. is one of the Cleveland Browns biggest problems through four games
He’s hurt the Browns pretty bad through four games.
