Cleveland Browns named a best fit for a former first-round pick figured to be on the NFL trade block
The Browns could be a fit for a quarterback who is set to be traded down the road.
If you have multiple quarterbacks fighting for a job you probably have none. The Cleveland Browns have seen that play out multiple times over the last few years.
Cleveland is still in search of its franchise quarterback and it can’t stop taking swings at righting the position. The Browns are out of reach of drafting one early in a draft class with one premier quarterback prospect (Fernando Mendoza). They’ll need to add a free agent or trade for a quarterback to compete with what they currently have.
Bleacher Report names the Browns a fit for Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson
One quarterback who is figured to be traded at some point is former first-round pick QB Anthony Richardson. Through three seasons, Richardson has been unable to prove he’s the guy for the Colts due to bad play and injuries. A breakup is likely best for both sides and a trade appears inevitable.
Bleacher Report named the Browns as a fit for Richardson, and I agree he could be a player the Browns take a look at this offseason.
I believe the Browns would have to strike out on multiple other quarterbacks before going to Richardson, but there’s no denying he has some attractive tools to his game. Browns HC Todd Monken likes a mobile quarterback and Richardson brings mobility along with a rocket arm. The former Florida Gator has never been able to fine-tune the mental and accuracy parts of being a quarterback.
Richardson missed nearly all of 2025 with injury after starting 11 games in 2024. The 23-year-old quarterback threw eight touchdowns to 12 interceptions to go along with 1,814 passing yards. Richardson only completed 48 percent of his passes while adding 499 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground.
Bringing in Richardson would be the Browns providing even stronger competition for the likes of those already on the roster; Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders, and Dillon Gabriel.
With how the first three seasons have gone for Richardson, it would only take a late-round pick to pry him away from the Colts. We’ll see if the Browns show any interest when things begin to heat up.
We are just days away from the NFL Scouting Combine beginning on Feb. 23 and if you’re anything like me, you’re waiting for more football to be on the screen no matter what kind of environment it’s in.
