Cade York was supposed to silence any doubts about the kicker spot on the Cleveland Browns for the foreseeable future.
But after the Hall of Fame game, he hasn't done so.
In the Browns' 21-16 win over the New York Jets, York trotted onto the field after Cleveland's initial drive stalled, and instead of converting the 49-yard attempt, he pushed it wide right. Brutal.
Think back to the Browns' loss to the Jets in the 2022 season, York missed a crucial late PAT that resulted in one of the most embarrassing Browns debacles in recent memory.
And the subsequent games in York's rookie season weren't all that promising either.
York finished last season with the league's worst field goal percentage. Since then, York has admitted to overthinking his routine and strategy during his rookie season. He said earlier in the summer that he has taken a simple approach to field goal kicking.
Yet, in the first preseason game, that simpler approach didn't look all that promising. If he still wants to be on the Browns' roster moving forward, he needs to start converting the kicks pro-level kickers shouldn't miss.
Until then, the Browns' kicker position has far more questions than answers.
