A former third-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in the 2014 NFL Draft has decided to call it a career.
It was made public on Thursday that linebacker Christian Kirksey would be retiring from the league. Kirksey spent six of his eight seasons with the Browns and was a member of the Buffalo Bills practice squad this season.
Kirksey started 54 of the 73 games he played in during his time with the Browns from 2014-19. During his time with the Browns, Kirksey made 484 tackles, four forced fumbles, and two interceptions. Injuries derailed his last two seasons with the team and allowed him to play just a combined nine games.
In 2016, Kirksey made 148 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and 11 tackles for a loss in what was his best season in the NFL.
Following his time with the Browns, Kirksey spent a year with the Green Bay Packers in 2020, and then the last two seasons in Houston. Just last season, Kirksey started all 17 games for the Texans and made 124 tackles.
Kirksey wraps up his NFL career at the age of 31. When healthy, Kirksey was a very solid player wherever he touched the field.
