The Cleveland Browns are 3-10 on the season and they’re going to have a tough time passing their win total of three games from last season.

Cleveland has four games left against the Chicago Bears, Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Cincinnati Bengals. A change very well could be coming for the Browns after the season, with the coaching staff and/or the front office. One member of the coaching staff could end up leaving even if the Browns don’t move off this staff.

Tommy Rees is in the mix for the head coaching job at Michigan

The biggest story of the week in the football world, college or pro, is the Michigan Wolverines firing HC Sherrone Moore for cause. With Moore having been fired, a major college football job is now open late in the process. Michigan has a big decision to make on its next head coach, and it is interested in Browns offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, according to Mary Kay Cabot.

Rees is calling the offensive plays for the Browns this season and has been doing so since early November when Kevin Stefanski gave up play-calling. Rees is close to wrapping up his first year as the Browns’ offensive coordinator. Before getting the OC title, Rees coached the tight ends with Cleveland last season.

Tommy Rees has a bit of a college football background that could make sense for Michigan

When Rees joined the Browns in 2024, that was just his second job he’s had in the NFL, and his first full-time one. The former Notre Dame quarterback got his start as a graduate assistant with Northwestern in 2015. After that, Rees was an offensive assistant with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2016. Rees went back to Notre Dame to coach quarterbacks in 2017 and held that role for three seasons. Rees was the offensive coordinator for the Fighting Irish from 2020 through 2022.

Penn State showed interest in Rees before hiring Matt Campbell to be their head coach. It’s clear that the Browns’ offensive coordinator is well thought of already as a coach at just 33 years old. It will be interesting to see if the interest from Michigan goes anywhere.
