The Cleveland Browns are still looking for their new head coach and that search is expected to end this week.

Cleveland had Jacksonville Jaguars OC Grant Udinski withdraw from the job Monday morning — and it comes the same day that the team is interviewing Los Angeles Rams pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase a second time

If the Browns go in the direction of Scheelhaase for its hire, it may set off a chain reaction.

Jim Schwartz is one to monitor if the Browns name Rams’ Nate Scheelhaase as head coach

The job for the Browns looks to be down the young offensive mind in Scheelhaase and giving Schwartz the keys to the team. One option that has been rumored to be on the Browns’ plate is to hire Scheelhaase as the head coach and keep Schwartz as defensive coordinator. That may be easier said than done.

While this comes off a lot as a leak from Schwartz’s reps with momentum swinging toward Scheelhaase to get the job, the Browns do have to weigh this. Schwartz is still under contract as a defensive coordinator in Cleveland, but that doesn’t mean he has to stick around.

If the Browns choose Scheelhaase over Schwartz, this could very well be a “pick up my ball and go home” kind of situation. Schwartz has the command of the defense and that’s been clear over the last three years. With the Browns’ biggest problems being on offense, elevating a defensive guy may be questionable.

Cleveland will have to weigh the possibility of Schwartz leaving if they don’t make him the head coach. If the Browns were to lose Schwartz, the defensive coordinator job would be highly coveted for obvious reasons including Myles Garrett.
