One of the biggest offensive threats for the Cleveland Browns hasn’t had an easy road this season by any means.

Tight end David Njoku suffered serious burns back on Sept. 29, at his home when he was starting a fire. Somehow, Njoku played just a couple of days later on Oct. 1 against the Baltimore Ravens.

“Getting burned like that not only made me more grateful for life,” Njoku said on Inside The NFL. “Playing in the game 48 hours it was like a rush. It didn’t didn’t feel like just a football game. It felt like we were modern-day gladiators.”

Njoku went on to say that he felt everything that day while playing football. He explained that every drop of sweat hurt and being tackled was painful. Still, Njoku caught six passes for 46 yards for Cleveland against the Ravens.

For Njoku, it was simple how he got through that game on Oct. 1 and never missed any football after suffering the injuries.

“If your mind is as strong as you want it to be, the body will follow,” explained Njoku. “It just opened my eyes in a different perspective.”

In 2023, Njoku already has 704 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Both of those numbers are career highs with three games remaining still. The athletic tight end has blossomed into that top tier of tight ends in the NFL.

If things went much worse on Sept. 29, who knows if Njoku would be playing. He said that he shouldn’t even have his vision, so to be excelling on the football field like this is a blessing.
