The Cleveland Browns dropped their fifth straight game in Week 17 and as a result, sit at 3-13 on the season with one game remaining. It was the Miami Dolphins who came in and handed the Browns a 20-3 loss.
However, another loss in a season full of them is not all bad news for Cleveland. With it already being a lost season, the Browns’ last few games are very important when it comes to draft positioning for April.
Entering the game for Cleveland, both the New York Giants and Jacksonville Jaguars picked up wins just before. This meant that the Browns were No. 4 overall in the draft order prior to the Week 17 game. Cleveland lost to the Giants early in the season, so now Cleveland holds the No. 3 pick.
Cleveland is for sure to have a top-five pick in the draft and will play the Baltimore Ravens next week. Whether the Browns win or lose that game will impact their final spot for where they will be picking.
The Browns will have Deshaun Watson back next season, but very well could go all in on drafting a quarterback if they like a prospect enough. Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Miami’s Cam Ward are the top two quarterbacks in the draft to watch.
Cleveland’s season has been a disaster all around and they now have 13 losses as a result. Miami rolled into town with familiar backup quarterback Tyler Huntley and picked up a win over the Browns to keep their playoff hopes alive. Cleveland just has to play one more game against the Ravens to get out of this season and into the offseason.
Another loss may not be what the team and some fans want to see, but it does help them in terms of building for the future at this point.
