The Cleveland Browns haven’t had a ton of big difference-makers in terms of pass catchers over the years. They’ve had some names but there has not been a high number of top-end guys out there.
With that being said, the Browns showed off their explosive passing attack under Joe Flacco in Week 15 against the Chicago Bears and cooked them for 374 yards through the air. Flacco turned the ball over three times, but he threw two touchdowns and took care of business when it was a must.
According to ESPN, the Browns had two 100-yard receivers for the first time in one game since 2013. Back then it was Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron, flash forward to today and it was Amari Cooper and David Njoku.
Njoku caught 10 passes for a total of 104 yards with a touchdown. It was a catch in the back of the end zone that Njoku displayed strong hands-on. Cooper had four grabs for 109 yards and a late touchdown that tied the game up. Flacco hit Cooper and he went up the sideline for a 51-yard touchdown.
Flacco has unleashed the passing game. It’s come with turnovers, but overall it has raised the ceiling of the offense from where it had previously been. It was the second straight game where Flacco had cleared 300 yards.
Njoku has 704 yards on the season now and that’s a season high for his career. Cooper is in the midst of another 1,000-yard season. The Browns No. 1 wide receiver currently has 985 yards on the season after another 100-yard game against the Bears.
Cleveland’s defense bought the Browns offense enough time to get it together in Week 15 and 20 was the magic number for win No. 9.
