Here is just another example of how quickly the NFL coaching world moves.

Following the end of their 2023 season, the Cleveland Browns opted to part ways with offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt. Now, he is heading to the New England Patriots to be their next offensive coordinator over there.

Van Pelt had served the last four seasons of his coaching career with the Browns. He was a quarterbacks coach with the team as well. Cleveland hired Ken Dorsey to be the next offensive coordinator at the end of January to replace Van Pelt. Before joining the Browns, Van Pelt was with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Though he did not call the plays in Cleveland, Van Pelt had a hand in most things that the offense did. Now with the Patriots, he will be handed play-calling duties under first-year head coach Jerod Mayo. The Bill Belichick era is over in the New England area and it is onto Mayo.

The Patriots are a team that will likely be selecting a quarterback in the first few picks during April’s NFL Draft. New England has to believe that Van Pelt is the guy for a rookie to work with.

It hasn’t always been this way where an ex-Browns coach lands on his feet quickly, so you can look at it as the franchise has come a long way.
