Cleveland Browns have announced a move that should have fans pretty happy at the beginning of the week.
The team is bringing in former fan favorite and second-round pick D’Qwell Jackson to a full-time position. Jackson will be a pro scout with the team and around the building full-time.
Previously, the Browns have had Jackson around off and on, now he will be with the team with an actual title.
Jackson was a second-round pick of the Browns in 2006 and spent the first eight seasons of his NFL career in Cleveland. During that time, Jackson started 96 of the 97 games that he played with Cleveland over that time. Jackson joined the Indianapolis Colts in 2014 and was there the final three seasons of his NFL playing career before he suckers to hang it up after the 2016 season.
While with the Browns, Jackson tallied 826 tackles and led the NFL in 2008 with 154 tackles in 16 games. Jackson missed all of 2010 with a shoulder injury but bounced back in 2011 with a career-high 158 total tackles that season.
Jackson was named to one Pro Bowl and that was in 2014 with the Colts. Over his 10-year NFL career, the linebacker had 1,192 tackles, 19.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, and nine interceptions.
Now at 40 years old, Jackson will embark on a career as a scout. The big picture isn’t known, but don’t be surprised to see Jackson end up on a coaching staff in a few years, perhaps even with the Browns. A former hard-nosed linebacker that was a sound player who did the little things right.
It would not be a surprise at all to see Jackson coaching if you followed his playing career.
