Anytime the Cleveland Browns have to face the Pittsburgh Steelers, the single biggest worry is pass rusher T.J. Watt. Watt is once again a worry for the Browns tonight and the injury report doesn’t do the Browns any favors.
Dawand Jones was lost for the season with a fibula injury and his replacement Jedrick Wills Jr. won’t be giving it a go on ‘Thursday Night Football’. Cleveland will be forced to start third-string tackle Germain Ifedi, who filled in for Jones against the New Orleans Saints last week when he went down.
A knee injury in Week 7 against the Cincinnati Bengals has been lingering for Wills since then. The following week is when Wills decided to hold himself out because he felt he wasn’t ready. That is when Cleveland handed the left tackle job to Jones, up until he was injured.
By no means is Wills a big upgrade over Ifedi, but anytime you are down to your third-string tackle against Watt it is a huge worry. Expect the star pass rusher to rush from both the left and right side, but it would not be a surprise if he focused on Ifedi’s side. Watt has 7.5 sacks to his credit so far this season and always shows up against Cleveland.
Other than Wills, the only other player that the Browns ruled out was tight end Geoff Swaim, who is dealing with a concussion. Linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah remains on the Injured Reserve with his neck injury.
Expect the Browns to use an extra tight end to help chip Watt at times, as well as plenty of double teams. The Browns are a 2-8 football team that will have zero chance if they allow Watt to be a game-wrecker.
For Cleveland, Thursday night is notable because it is Nick Chubb’s first game against the Steelers since he blew out his knee in Week 2 of last season against Pittsburgh. Back at home tonight, Chubb will be looking to run the ball hard.
