Time is ticking along while the Cleveland Browns wait to get their starting quarterback back out on the field.

Deshaun Watson spoke to the media on Wednesday for the first time since Sept. 27 before he was injured against the Tennessee Titans in Week 3. Since then, Watson has not practiced fully and missed games against the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers.

Watson provided an update on when he could be back, but it’s not a precise one and it leaves the door open.

“It could be tomorrow, it could be Sunday, it could be two weeks from now,” Watson explained. “I’m not even sure. Like I said it’s day to day.”

Over the past couple of weeks, head coach Kevin Stefanski has been adamant that the injury is day-to-day. We are now in the third week without Watson being a full go.

“It’s coming along. The arrow has been trending up,” Watson said. “Each and every day we’ve been trying to get better and better and try to get as comfortable as possible.”

In Week 7, the Browns are rolling into Indianapolis to take on the Colts. After defeating the San Francisco 49ers, it would be big for the Browns to get their leader back.

Watson not being back on the field yet has to do with his ability to drive the ball. Getting the ball downfield is a must or you’re going to be limited to a certain part of the field on offense and nobody wants that.

“I can deal with certain pain tolerance but if I can’t control the football, throw the football with no velocity. If I can’t throw the football down the field I don’t want to handicap the team.”

On the other hand, injuries can have a mental impact as well as physical. That’s a big reason the injury needs to heal.

“I don’t want to get out there and be hesitant in throwing the ball or anything like that,” Watson said.

There is a chance that Watson will return in Indianapolis in Week 7. The next three days will be telling on whether or not that will happen.
