Latest Cleveland Browns’ injury update shows that 2 players may have played their final snap in Northeast Ohio
Unfortunate break for the Cleveland Browns coming off of the loss to the Tennessee Titans.
The Cleveland Browns’ most recent loss was one of their worst of the season because of who it came against. Cleveland dropped a home game to the previous one-win Tennessee Titans on Sunday by a score of 31-29 in a game that Shedeur Sanders played rather well in.
Unfortunately for the Browns, they took a tough injury loss during that game against the Titans. Pending free agent C Ethan Pocic went down with an Achilles injury that required surgery and now Cleveland has lost another player for the season.
Browns placed 2 players on the injured reserve to end their seasons
Cleveland acted on Tuesday to place Pocic and RB Jerome Ford on the injured reserve. The IR keeps players out for a minimum of four games, which is the number of games that the Browns have left this season. Ford suffered a shoulder injury against Tennessee that landed him on the injured reserve. Both players are pending free agents, so they very well could have played their last games in Cleveland.
Pocic has spent four seasons with the Browns and started all 57 games he’s played in during that time. Cleveland will have to make a decision on bringing the 30-year-old veteran back, or rolling with C Luke Wypler who is still on his rookie contract. Wypler will have the final four games of the season to potentially lock down the center job for next season.
Ford has been primarily a return man and third-down pass blocker for the Browns this season. The former fifth-round pick of the 2022 NFL Draft has just 73 rushing yards and 103 receiving yards this season for the Browns. In four years with the team, Ford has started in 18 of the 57 games he’s played and has 1,463 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns during that time. Ford’s best season came in 2023 when he had 813 rushing yards in 12 starts following the first major injury to Nick Chubb.
With Ford out, the Browns are missing their No. 3 running back and third-down option as a pass blocker. Expect to see more of Raheim Sanders as the third-down back, potentially behind Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson for the last four games of the season. Cleveland has games left against the Chicago Bears, Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Cincinnati Bengals.
