Cleveland Browns are just over a week away from starting their season off against the Cincinnati Bengals in what will be a crucial year for this regimen.

Not only is it a crucial year in that aspect, but the Browns have a pretty crucial start to the season. Three of the first four games will be against AFC North opponents, so Cleveland will know a lot about this team early on.

Being healthy to start the season is a very important wrinkle to getting off to a good start. Cleveland is in a pretty good place there, outside of a couple of worries.

Gearing up for Week 1, this is where the health of the Browns stands.

CB Denzel Ward

Ward has been in concussion protocol since the final preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Ward left the game in the first quarter and would not return. It’s only questionable to play starters in the preseason but this was the first snaps the veteran cornerback played in an exhibition.

Ward’s status for the Week 1 matchup against the Bengals is unknown. It will be as important as ever for the Browns to have their top cornerback going up against the harsh passing attack that Cincinnati brings.

DE Alex Wright

Wright and the Browns seemingly dodged a bullet when the defensive end didn’t have to start the season on the injured reserve. The second-year player had arthroscopic knee surgery following an injury in the first preseason game against the New York Jets.

Injury reports aren’t yet available but it wouldn’t surprise if Wright ends up questionable to play in Week 1. The UAB product is the Browns’ No. 4 defensive end.

LB Jordan Kunaszyk

Kunaszyk landed on the injured reserve where he will have to stay for the first four games of the season. The special teams player won’t be eligible to return until Oct. 15 against the San Francisco 49ers, following the Week 5 bye week.

It was a torn MCL that Kunaszyk suffered against the Chiefs last week. Still, Kunaszyk was able to make the 53-man roster thanks to some roster shuffling with Maurice Hurst.

KR/WR Jakeem Grant Sr.

Grant’s time with the Browns has been injury-riddled. Before last season, the returner ruptured his Achilles. Then, in his first play with the Browns, Grant ruptured his patellar tendon during a kickoff return.

Whether Grant will miss the season or not is up in the air. There is a chance that he could return late in the season but that’s nothing to count on. Just a very unfortunate time with the Browns it has been for him.

LB Jacob Phillips

Phillips went on the injured reserve before the season with a torn pectoral.

WR Michael Woods II

During the off-season, the second-year wide receiver suffered an Achilles injury. Cleveland placed him on the reserve/non-football injury list that he will stay on for the course of the season.

Overall, going into Week 1 the Browns should be primarily healthy for the most part. Ward playing is the biggest question and would be the biggest loss. The chances of that happening are something we will know more about as next week goes on.
