Injuries have been a bit unfair for the Cleveland Browns this season and they’ve been hit with another.
According to Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz, LT Jedrick Wills Jr. will miss the rest of the season. Wills, who is currently on the injured reserve, underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on Tuesday.
“Browns offensive tackle Jed Wills underwent arthroscopic knee surgery today at University Hospitals Drusinsky Sport Medicine Institute. Team Head Physician James Voos, MD, performed the surgery and considered it a success. Wills injured his knee in the Browns 27-0 win over the Cardinals at Cleveland Browns Stadium and was placed on injured reserve on November 7. He will miss the remainder of the 2023 season and a full recovery is expected for the start of the 2024 season.” – statement from the team
Wills suffered the injury back on Nov. 5 against the Arizona Cardinals and while it looked serious at first, the original expectation was that Wills would be able to return late in the season.
Cleveland turned to Geron Christian to take over for Wills and it has gone fine for the veteran tackle. Wills was not playing exactly well this season, perhaps some of the worst ball of his career. There was a chance for Wills to come back and end the season strong but that is now out of the window.
The Browns have already picked up the fifth-year option on their former first-round pick for next season. His money is guaranteed and he will be in Cleveland unless they find a trade partner, which is very possible.
It’s an unfortunate ending to Wills’ fourth season in the NFL. He is yet to prove he’s a franchise left tackle and the position is a question mark for Cleveland moving forward.
Cleveland has now lost their top three tackles on the season. Jack Conklin, Dawand Jones, and now Wills won’t suit up again for the Browns in 2023. Even with all of the injuries this team has gone through, they remain at 8-5 and hold onto the top Wildcard spot.
