The Cleveland Browns shook things up near the top of the draft on Thursday night when they decided to move out of the No. 2 overall pick.

After passing on Travis Hunter to take Michigan DT Mason Graham with the No. 5 overall pick, the Browns now stay put at No. 33 and take a defender who raises questions for a Pro Bowler on the team.

Cleveland takes the top linebacker on the board at No. 33 overall and this now raises questions about the uncertainty of Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah’s health. Owusu-Koramoah was lost against the Baltimore Ravens last season with a neck injury. Since then, there haven’t been a ton of updates about his future in football. JOK was a second-round pick himself in 2021.

Schwesinger gives Cleveland an option to be an eventual starting linebacker for the Browns and gives Cleveland a player with great pursuit. The Browns going defense with their first two picks is interesting after how bad their offense was last year.

Carson Schwesinger Scouting Report

Carson Schwesinger, LB, UCLA

Age: 22 (02/24/2023)

A to Z Sports Expected Draft Position: 62

“Schwesinger wasn't viewed as much of a recruit coming out of Oaks Christian, so he eventually decided to walk on to the UCLA program. After not playing a ton previously outside of special teams, Schwesinger became a stellar performer in 2024. He finished last season with 136 total tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, two interceptions, and five pass breakups. Schwesinger is an extremely impressive athlete with a ton of range working to the sideline. His vision is decent enough, so he's often in the right spot to quickly read and react. His biggest improvement will need to come from a play strength perspective. If he can add that needed pop, he has the potential to develop into a good starter.” — Ryan Roberts, A to Z Sports

Career Projection: Eventual good starter

Going away

If JOK’s health turns out fine, the Browns have the chance to create a pretty dynamic linebacker group with the addition of Schwesinger to the team. This certainly wasn’t the expected pick and it’s one that raises questions.
