It is a business trip this week for the Cleveland Browns but one that may be a bit more special for defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.
Schwartz is back in the Philadelphia area where he won the 2017 Super Bowl with the Eagles when he was the defensive coordinator there.
As you can see above, Schwartz has wasted no time saying hello to former players. Schwartz led the defense of the Eagles from 2016-20. The Browns and Eagles are taking part in a pair of joint practices the next couple of days.
Schwartz was hired this past offseason to lead the Browns’ defensive unit. One that he hopes to lead in a big step forward from last year’s group.
Following leaving the Eagles in 2020, Schwartz was a senior defensive assistant with the Tennessee Titans organization for two seasons before landing the Browns job.
Back in Philadelphia much of the defense’s success rode on the defensive line getting after it. Back then it was Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham, now it is Myles Garrett and Za’Darius Smith that Schwartz will have to utilize.
Cleveland will be in Philadelphia through Thursday, so Schwartz will have plenty of time to catch up with his former colleague.
It is a time that Schwartz will surely enjoy but he knows the benefits of his current defense going up against a team as good as the Eagles.
