Cleveland Browns top flight defense could lose a very important piece to the puzzle following the season.

There have been rumors of NFL teams being interested in defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz for head coaching jobs. Despite some thinking that Schwartz was past being a head coach, he put the truth out there on Thursday.

“I’d say this, in any job that you do, you always aspire to the top of that profession. And I’m no different there,” Schwartz said during his media availability.

Schwartz has come in and turned Cleveland’s defense into the best the franchise has had in the modern area. It is the best in the NFL and it’ll be remembered for a long time.

“First of all, I’m really happy here,” he said Thursday. “I talked about Kevin. I haven’t really talked about Andrew Barry or the Haslams, but I love this organization. I love the city of Cleveland,” Schwartz explained.

Cleveland clinched the playoffs on Thursday Night Football and it was an atmosphere that he won’t forget.

“That was such a great atmosphere. [I’ve had] 31 years in the NFL, that was one of my top five atmospheres that Thursday night.”

Schwartz was the head coach of the Detroit Lions from 2009-2013 and had a 29-51 record. Those were some very dreadful times for Lions’ fans, it is times that the Browns can relate all too well to. Following that, Schwartz was a defensive coordinator with the Bills and then the Eagles, where he won a Super Bowl.

The last couple of years for Schwartz was an analyst job on Mike Vrabel’s staff with the Tennessee Titans. Now, he’s back in coaching and he’s thriving with the Browns. Once hiring picks up following the season, you’re going to hear Schwartz’s name tossed around for some jobs.
