Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco saved a season teetering on the edge of being lost.

When Deshaun Watson went down, coupled with already not having Nick Chubb and other players, it looked like Cleveland wouldn't have much to play for. Then the Browns signed Flacco off his couch, and the veteran has looked as good as nearly any quarterback in the league.

One person who has noticed is Robert Saleh, the New York Jets' head coach. And recently, he compared Flacco to a reliable car that just keeps working.

"Joe is awesome," Saleh said. "I have the utmost respect for Joe. I’ve said it before, he’s like a Ford pickup truck. You might not like it in the summer, but in the winter months that son of a gun starts humming."

And for the Browns, that comparison couldn't be more accurate. It hasn't always been pretty with Flacco, but the offense has been effective.

He has been a quarterback willing to push the ball downfield, maximizing the creativity of Kevin Stefanski's playbook.

Flacco has notched three straight 300-yard performances in the heart of the Browns' playoff push.

Against the Houston Texans, Flacco threw for 368 yards and two touchdowns. Before that, he threw for 374 yards in a thrilling win over the Chicago Bears. And on Dec. 10, he threw for 311 yards and three touchdowns in a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

There hasn't been a better Browns quarterback all season. So as Saleh said, the Browns sure are happy to have their Ford pickup truck for the late December playoff push.

The Browns and Jets kick off on Thursday Night Football at 8:15 p.m.
