The 2023 NFL season has not gone to plan for Cleveland Browns WR Marquise Goodwin but he showed a flash of what he can still do in Week 15.

Goodwin reeled in a 57-yard bomb from Joe Flacco for his first significant impact of the season in the passing game. That play was enough for Flacco to talk about what he can do for the offense.

“It adds a lot to the game when you have a guy that can run like that and take the top off of defenses and even if you’re not completing a ton of balls to him, I think if we can get him going, in some ways it’ll have a good effect on this offense," Flacco said on Wednesday.

Coming into Week 15, Goodwin had just three catches for 10 yards and 33 yards rushing. In just one play in the final minutes against the Bears, he topped all of that.

During training camp, Goodwin battled blood clots in his lungs and was out up until the start of the regular season. Then, the veteran wide receiver suffered a concussion against the Cardinals in Week 9 and missed four games. To say he’s battled adversity this season would be an understatement.

Nothing has changed with Goodwin, he’s still a burner that can take the top off of the opposing defense. Flacco’s comment sounds a lot like a guy who knows he can connect with Goodwin downfield more than just once.

Adding an involved Goodwin to a passing attack that is working the best it’s ever had with Amari Cooper, David Njoku, and Elijah Moore would work out well. Cedric Tillman and David Bell have been involved as well.

Don’t be surprised if the Browns find more ways to get their ‘secret’ weapon more involved over the next few weeks.
