Cleveland Browns failed in a big way in the Wild Card and it may have cost head coach Kevin Stefanski more than a game.

Going into the postseason, Stefanski was the favorite to win Coach of the Year with voting already over. It would be the second time Stefanski has won the award, but it looks like maybe he shouldn’t win it now.

DeMeco Ryans and the Texans beating Cleveland 45-14 had to help his case for the award and he has a pretty strong one.

Not only did Ryans and Texans defeat the Browns, they did it in dominant fashion and that has to mean something. The Texans came in meaning business from the very start and they shell-shocked Cleveland.

Ryans’ defense stepped up against the Browns and scored two touchdowns. Just a year ago, the Texans were a team that was picking No. 2 in the NFL Draft. They hit on a gem with QB C.J. Stroud, who torched the Browns for a couple of touchdowns and nearly 300 yards. It was a near-flawless effort for the rookie.

A lot of times, the Coach of the Year award goes to the rookie head coach who makes a big impact far beyond what is expected. That is what has happened in Houston. No one pictured them winning many games, let alone having. A winning record and making it past the Wild Card.

"We picked a bad day to have a bad day,” Stefanski said after the loss. “I want to make sure to credit DeMeco and their team."

The job that Ryans has done this year deserves an award. Houston has their quarterback and their head coach and the future is shining bright for a team that Cleveland still owes one more first-round pick for the Deshaun Watson trade.
