It is officially NFL draft month and we’re just over three weeks until the draft is here. For a team like the Cleveland Browns, they have a big decision to make at No. 2 overall.

Most figure that the draft starts at No. 2 with the Tennessee Titans expected to take Miami QB Cam Ward at No. 1 overall. Cleveland needs a quarterback of the future but they’re not going to force it with the pick at No. 2.

Cleveland very well could go best player available but finding a veteran bridge quarterback option may need to happen for that to work out. The veteran quarterback market has mostly dried up and one player who remains potentially available is Kirk Cousins of the Atlanta Falcons.

NFL insider Dianna Russini thinks Cleveland landing QB Kirk Cousins makes sense

Cousins was in Cleveland last week and the reason is unknown. Browns GM Andrew Berry says it had nothing to do with the NFL team in Cleveland but it still raised ears around the fanbase and even the league.

“I don’t know how far it is along right now, I just know there is enough smoke around this and enough conversations being had that this wouldn’t be a surprising move,” The Atheltic’s Dianna Russini said on “Scoop City”. “Knowing Kevin Stefanski coached Kirk Cousins when he was in Minnesota, it makes a lot of sense why that would work.”

Stefanski and Cousins spent two years together in 2018 and 2019 before Stefanski became the head coach of the Browns. Those were the first two years for Cousins in Minnesota and he was a standout during that time with 56 passing touchdowns to 16 interceptions. Cousins was a Pro Bowler in 2019 when he completed 69 percent of his passes for 3,603 yards, 26 touchdowns, and six interceptions

After the Achilles injury in 2023, Cousins signed a free agency deal with the Atlanta Falcons and started 14 games in 2024. Cousins eventually lost the job and didn’t play his best ball with a career-high 16 interceptions. The Falcons moved on to rookie QB Michael Penix as their quarterback of the future.

The further he gets away from the Achilles injury, Cousins has a better chance to bounce back. If the Browns decide to make a move on Cousins, it likely won’t come until after the draft. He holds a no-trade clause and he doesn’t want to end up in a situation where he is benched for a first-round rookie once again.
