Free agency begins next week and six months ago joined would have expected Joe Flacco to be a player in it.

Last offseason, Flacco had no offers and didn’t end up playing until the final stretch of the season with the Cleveland Browns.

Things will be different this go around when Flacco will have multiple teams interested in him. In a piece from The Athletic today, one NFL writer believes that Flacco will eventually sign with the Los Angeles Rams.

Flacco and the Browns both have an interest in reuniting for the 2024 season after what they accomplished together in 2023. The belief is that Flacco wants a chance to compete for a job if he can find one, if not he will have to settle for a backup gig.

That backup gig could come with the Browns but they’re not going to overpay for it. Cleveland let Jacoby Brissett walk after the 2022 season because he was never going to get $8 million to sit on the bench.

Cleveland needs a backup and they need one that can play for a length of time if needed. Until he proves it, Deshaun Watson can not be counted on in Cleveland. Between the suspension and last season’s injury, he played in 12 games in two seasons. Dorian Thompson-Robinson is on the roster but he was not close to ready in 2023.

Flacco signing with the Rams would make him the backup to Matthew Stafford and he would fit in nicely if he had to step in.

The Browns should bring Flacco back and it would be a negative if he signs somewhere for a dollar amount that the Browns could afford.
