Not the news the Cleveland Browns wanted to come out of their second preseason game with just broke.
Cleveland LB Jacob Phillips will miss the 2023 season with a torn pectoral muscle that he suffered in last night’s 17-5 loss. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The injury may sound familiar, well that’s because it is. Head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed the injury on his Saturday Zoom meeting.
Phillips suffered a season-ending pectoral injury against the Baltimore Ravens last October that forced him to miss the entire season. During the 2021 season, Phillips tore his biceps and missed the majority of that season. The LSU product has had an unfortunate rash of injuries in his NFL career.
Since being drafted in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Cleveland’s fourth-year linebacker has been able to play in just 20 games. He’s made eight starts during that time. In his career, Phillips has made 88 tackles and three sacks.
At this point, you have to feel for the guy who hasn’t had a fair shot at solidifying an NFL career due to injury. Another season-ending injury for Phillips very well could be his last one in Cleveland.
