Just like that the Cleveland Browns are 1-5 on the season and it is more than fair to wonder when the bleeding is going to stop.
The latest outcome for the Browns was a 20-16 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and it was another game where the Browns failed to score at least 20 points. They remain the only team in the NFL to not have done so.
Other than the loss to the Eagles, the Browns potentially took another hit to their roster.
Early in the first quarter in a scoreless game, center Nick Harris went down with what appeared to be an ankle injury. It looked bad right away and the ensuing actions were telling that it was serious. An air cast was out on the limb and a cart took Harris to the locker room.
Following the game, head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed it was a fractured fibula that would require surgery and end Harris’ season.
Cleveland ruled out Harris right away and was forced to plug in Michael Dunn at center. Rookie guard Zak Zinter played right guard and veteran tackle Jack Conklin played in his season debut. The Browns gave up five sacks of their quarterback in Week 6.
For the Browns, it was a tough sequence losing another player at a position they are already thin. Starting center Ethan Pocic was inactive against the Eagles and second-year center Luke Wypler was lost before the season to an injury. The Browns do not have another center behind Harris ready to go. Dunn was able to step up and has been a player that has played across the offensive line in his NFL career.
This is a really tough break for Harris, who spent his first four seasons with the Browns before signing with the Seattle Seahawks as a free agent last offseason. After Wypler went down with an injury, the Browns traded a late pick to the Seahawks to acquire Harris in the trade.
So far this season, Harris has played in 34 percent of the offensive snaps. In his five-year NFL career, Harris has made five starts for the Browns and played in 44 total games.
Another tough break for the Browns, who will now need to find interior help for an offensive line that just can never stay healthy. Meanwhile, the team is spiraling downward with four straight losses.
