Cleveland Browns were back to work just a day after clinching a spot in the playoffs.
The Browns signed QB Jeff Driskel to the active roster off of the Cardinals’ practice squad, per the team. By doing so, the Browns will have to keep Driskel on the active roster for at least three weeks.
Essentially, Cleveland made the move gearing up for the postseason and the final game of the season in Week 18 in Cincinnati.
If the Baltimore Ravens defeat the Miami Dolphins tomorrow, Cleveland will no longer have a shot at the No. 1 seed in the AFC. The Browns will turn to resting players in the final week of the season since they will be locked into the No. 5 seed.
Comeback Player of the Year candidate Joe Flacco would be one of the players to rest, then QB P.J. Walker would step in to start. Browns know as well as anyone, that injuries are a part of the game and Driskel could have to step in at any moment.
Driskel is 30 years old and in his eighth NFL season. He started 11 games in 2018 for the Cincinnati Bengals and has played in 23 career games, seven last year with the Texans. The veteran quarterback brings a big arm that can make throws to any part of the field. At 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, Driskel is similar to Flacco in build.
To make room for the move, the Browns waived DE Sam Kamara. This could bode as good news because the team has been waiting to see if DE Ogbo Okoronkwo could play through a pectoral injury.
