One player has separated himself from the rest when it comes to the Cleveland Browns. He’s the one that happens to be the most important for the team, too.
At the midseason point, the Browns’ MVP is no other than DE Myles Garrett. He’s on track to potentially win his first Defensive Player of the Year award, he has been that good.
Through eight games, Garrett has 9.5 sacks and is on track to eclipse his season-high of 16 sacks that he has had each of the last two seasons.
Coming into the year, it was known that Garrett could potentially take his game to another level. Already an All-Pro, Garrett is now looking he’s one-of-one. With the investments the Browns have put around him, Garrett has looked like potentially the best player in football.
When he’s not recording sacks, he’s affecting the game in other ways. Often offensive lines worry about Garrett so much that he’s opening up rush lanes for his teammates. He’s a headache to have to game plan for.
A couple of weeks ago, Garrett had two forced fumbles against the Indianapolis Colts. Back in September, he had 3.5 sacks against the Titans.
Cleveland’s defense has looked like perhaps the best in the NFL and Garrett is right in the middle when it comes to why they are that good.
If Garrett continues at the pace he is playing, he will be on track for 20 sacks this season. If that happens, he will have some new accolades to add to the trophy shelf.
Instant Reaction: Browns regain defensive dominance in blowout win over Cardinals
The defense returned to form in Week 9.
