The Cleveland Browns’ most important first task is nailing their head coaching search following the Kevin Stefanski era.

Cleveland has several second interviews set up this week and a decision on the next head coach is coming down the pike. Once that process is over, building a better team in Cleveland is the focus. The Browns have two first-round picks come April where hitting on those selections is crucial.

Browns take a new quarterback of the future and Ohio State WR Carnell Tate in the latest mock draft

In the latest mock draft here at A to Z Sports, the Browns select Ohio State Buckeyes WR Carnell Tate at No. 6 overall. Tate presents big-time play ability and is the next top wide receiver out of Columbus. Where it gets interesting is the Browns selecting Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss with pick No. 24 via the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Cleveland spent the 2025 season seeing if they had anything in former third and fifth-round picks Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. Sanders showed the most potential of the two with seven starts. But even Sanders didn’t show a ton and running it back in 2026 with him would be a big risk. The same can be said about taking Chambliss with a first-round pick.

Chambliss threw for just under 4,000 yards with a 22-3 touchdown-to-interception ratio for Ole Miss this season. The former Division II quarterback has just one season under his belt as a Power Four starter and that’s a red flag. Chambliss is a dual-threat quarterback who added 527 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.

The Ole Miss product will be 24 years old at the start of the 2026 NFL season. Chambliss was a very good player at the Division II level and then was an instant success in the SEC. In what is a weak quarterback class that falls off after Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza — there may be worth in taking a shot on Chambliss.

Drafting Chambliss would likely come with a bridge option — potentially Sanders — before the rookie would take over. Drafting Tate to add a weapon to an offense that lacks them is a win as well. This offseason has to be focused on the offense — and this would be a big investment toward that.
