For a few years now there has been talk of the Cleveland Browns getting a new stadium or adding a dome to their current one.

A recent report has it looking a lot like the Browns could be wanting to build a new stadium entirely. According to NEOtrans, Browns’ ownership has reached an agreement to buy 176 acres of land.

The only downfall that some may instantly see is that the land is not in Cleveland. It is a suburb of Cleveland named Brook Park. Yes, it is only a few miles outside of Cleveland but that is not the point. If Cleveland games were played at this location, it would go from a lake view to being outside the inner city.

Cleveland’s lease ends for the current stadium after the 2028 season. Ownership has been in talks with the city in the past to renovate the current stadium, so this new land very well could be an insurance policy if things fall through at the current location.

The new location would be near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. While there is no sure word yet on what the land is for, it does cross the 100-acre threshold needed for a new stadium.

Over the next couple of years, renovation that the current stadium will have begun, or construction on a new stadium will have started. This could be a long and even messy process.
