Cleveland Browns have not had a first-round pick for the last three NFL Drafts, so they’ve had to really hammer in on hitting those middle-round picks.

After trading a second-round pick for Elijah Moore before the draft last year, the Browns took wide receiver Cedric Tillman out of Tennessee.

As a rookie, Tillman had a limited role and ended with 224 receiving yards on 21 catches. The Browns targeted him 44 times and he did not score a touchdown.

Still, all of the right things are being said about Tillman and he could be a player that takes a nice leap in Year 2.

“Very excited about Ced. You know, guys come into the league in different stages of their maturation, whether it’s as a person or as a player,” Kevin Stefanski said on Tuesday. “I think Ced continues to get better physically, and I do think just the things that he does in our offense, he’s one year more comfortable in everything we’re doing. So he’s had a really nice offseason.”

Tillman offers the Browns a lengthy 6-foot-3 target. He is one of a couple of young wideouts that the Browns are developing and that includes David Bell. Tillman can win downfield and is strong at the high point of the catch. Continuing to work on his route running will be key to his development.

“Till (Cedric Tillman), he’s been working. He’s been working really hard, and you can see it,” quarterback Deshaun Watson said on Tuesday. “He’s been improving. He’s knowing what he has got to do on each and every rep. He can play different positions, he can run all the routes, he can catch the big boy balls, you can toss it up to him, and he can catch the tough ones and the easy ones. So, I think he’s going to be a great addition for this offense, and he’s going to help us out.”

Amari Cooper is currently holding out in minicamp and Jerry Jeudy is dealing with a minor injury, so that only means more opportunity for a guy like Tillman. Cleveland being able to develop their 2023 third-round selection into a good contributor would be huge for the making of the roster with him on a rookie contract.

We are still a couple of months away from the season and have training camp to get through, but things are looking up for Tillman heading into his sophomore campaign.
