The NFL season is an 18-week gauntlet and that doesn’t include the preseason or postseason.

Plenty of football is played each NFL season, perhaps a little too much honestly. With the new 17-game schedule one thing that does not make sense is the trade deadline.

According to a report, the Browns have submitted a proposal to extend the trade deadline to two weeks later.

As it currently sits, the trade deadline happens entering Week 9. This season it came on Oct. 31 and the Browns had only played seven games to that point. They say at 4-3 on the season and at seven games in may have not had a great idea of what their need maybe with a trade.

Extending the deadline a couple of weeks will allow teams to see half of the season and it could lead to a more active deadline. If teams are right there on the border of buying and selling, they’ll likely stay out and that leads to no moves. Deshaun Watson went down for the season right after the trade deadline in 2023, which was kind of salt in the wound.

Moving the trade deadline should happen and the Browns aren’t the only team that will want it to happen. We’ll see what move the league makes regarding it this offseason.
