NFL quarterback nugget connects Cleveland Browns to a quarterback trade, and it’s all because of the fit with Todd Monken
The Browns could be a landing spot for a former first round quarterback on the trade block.
The Cleveland Browns have a lot to work through this offseason with the first offense under new head coach Todd Monken.
Cleveland is going to have to use serious resources to retool its offensive line and they started on Monday by trading for OT Tytus Howard from the Houston Texans. The most important question for the Browns will be who’s under center for the 2026 season.
Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders, and Dillon Gabriel are the current quarterbacks on the roster, but the Browns are going to bring in another player at the position.
The Browns named as a potential landing spot for Colts QB Anthony Richardson
Indianapolis Colts QB Anthony Richardson is one quarterback on the trade block who is expected to be moved. Both the Colts and Richardson are interested in a fresh start for the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
NBC Sports’ Matthew Berry heard at the combine that the Browns could be a potential landing spot for Richardson this offseason.
“Final QB nugget is that the Colts are expected to move on from Anthony Richardson this offseason and a potential landing spot for him is Cleveland, where Todd Monken, who spent the last few years coaching Lamar Jackson, could try to develop Richardson’s considerable athletic gifts,” Berry wrote.
It likely won’t take much to get Richardson from the Colts. Indianapolis has its eyes on keeping Daniel Jones and Richardson isn’t in its plans. Drafting Richardson at No. 4 overall was always a major gamble, but worth the shot due to the athletic traits he brings. Richardson is a dangerous runner with a bazooka of an arm at 6-foot-4 and 244 pounds.
Richardson made 11 starts in 2024 and held a 6-5 record with 1,814 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. The turnovers were a major problem for the former Florida Gators standout and they held back the good moments he had.
Cleveland bringing in Richardson would give them another body in the quarterback competition. It would likely take a late-round pick to get Richardson at this point, and he’d have a chance to impress the Browns enough to win the Week 1 job.
The Browns are going to hand the ball to the quarterback who gives them the best chance to win. General manager Andrew Berry is in a spot where he has to get the quarterback right soon, or he’ll be looking for another job. I don’t expect Richardson to be their first offseason option to add at the position due to Berry’s job status.
Free agency begins next week and things are heating up around the NFL. Don’t be surprised if the Browns make a swing for a former first-round pick, the rumors are already swirling.
