The Cleveland Browns play football Thursday.
No, it isn't a tight-gripped meaningful football game. But it still is an opportunity for Kevin Stefanski and his coaching staff to get an extra look at a few players on the depth chart.
On Tuesday, Stefanski revealed the quarterbacks he expects to play against the New York Jets. Those two are Kellen Mond and fifth-round draft selection Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
The Hall of Fame game will be held in Canton. And Stefanski said that Mond will quarterback the first half while Thompson-Robinson captains the second.
Mond has thrown three passes in his NFL career. So his overall talent is still somewhat unknown.
“I think when you start to get more experience in the NFL, you start to realize whatever you put on tape is going to be what people think of you and going to be your results," Mond said on Tuesday. "So, every time you step on the field, your goal should be to put good film on tape, play well, execute, and at the end of the day, put the ball in the end zone. So that’s what I’m most excited for.”
Ultimately, the Browns are attempting to determine who out Thompson-Robinson and Mond will be the third quarterback on the roster.
“I’m ready to just go out there and get an opportunity to play–being a rookie, you don’t really get as much practice reps, so finally being able to get in the game, the time is yours and you get to go out there and show what you can do," Thompson-Robinson said. "It’s fun for me.”
Thursday's Hall of Fame game will be the closest the two can get to the real thing at this point in the year. And for both quarterbacks, though in the long run, the game is meaningless, they will attempt to put their best foot forward for the coaching staff.
