Cleveland Browns’ latest move regarding Super Bowl-winning QB Joe Flacco is going to quiet a lot of talk around the NFL.
Flacco has officially signed a one-year deal with the team that brings him up to the active roster from the practice squad. The Browns have elevated Flacco from the practice squad the last two games to start under center for them.
There was plenty of talk around the NFL landscape that another team would poach Flacco from the practice squad since you can no longer protect players. This deal shuts down any talk of that and besides, Flacco was never going anywhere in the first place.
"I wouldn't have went though anyway. It's been great here,” Flacco said on Thursday.
It is a one-year deal that is worth up to $4.25 million for Flacco. For each remaining regular season game, Flacco will be paid $75,000. If the Browns can win a Wildcard game, Flacco would be paid $250,000. Say Cleveland can win in the divisional round, that’ll pay Flacco $500,000. The money continues to double up to a Super Bowl win.
Flacco said he hopes to keep playing after this season and with how he’s played over the last two games, he looks like a guy that very well could. He made it a point he’s not worried about that right now and will deal with it when that time comes during his media availability.
Through two games, Flacco has thrown for 565 yards and has five touchdown passes with two interceptions. He’s ignited the passing game for the Browns and it’s the best it’s been this season.
Now, there will be no more talk of Flacco going to another team and the focus can turn to how well he is playing with Cleveland.
One time strength for the Browns could be a major weakness in Week 15
Cleveland’s injury issues on the offensive line are worrisome.
