As if the Cleveland Browns haven’t had enough injuries on the season, they’ve suffered another big hit.

On the same day that the Browns announced that LT Jedrick Wills Jr. would be out for the rest of the season, they announced the same with DT Maurice Hurst.

Hurst has been the top rotational defensive lineman for the Browns this season and has resurrected his career in 2023. Hurst has played about 40 percent of the defensive snaps this year and has 22 tackles (4 TFL), 1.5 sacks, and an interception on his resume this year.

Cleveland signed Hurst as a free agent who had only played two games since 2020 and he blossomed into a major contributor for the defense. The 13 games played this season are the most that he’s played in a season since 2019, unfortunately, injuries have held him back from full potential.

It now makes sense why the Browns have brought up DL Sam Kamara from the practice squad. Rookie DT Siaki Ika is likely going to see his first NFL snaps rather soon, as the Browns have DT Jordan Elliott in the concussion protocol.

The rash of injuries has the Browns losing another important player. Still, the Browns remain at 8-3 on the season and are chasing the playoffs.
