Cleveland Browns have taken another big hit in terms of injuries and that surely isn’t the first time you’ve heard that this season.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski announced on Monday that the Browns would be without rookie RT Dawand Jones, as he has a knee injury that will require surgery.

It is a big blow for the Browns, who lost starting RT Jack Conklin in the very first game of the season. After that happened, Jones stepped in and the Browns haven’t missed a beat. There is no sugar coating the loss, it could be very bad for the team down the stretch run.

Cleveland selected Jones in the fourth round out of Ohio State and he looks like a pure steal. He was a first-round talent to many, but some other concerns caused him to fall. The Browns pounced on him in the fourth round and they have to be ecstatic they did.

During his rookie season, Jones allowed three sacks on 419 pass-blocking reps, according to Pro Football Focus. He’s held his own against players like T.J. Watt and Nick Bosa as a rookie.

“I've seen Dawand make great strides on and off the field,” Stefanski said Monday. “We have a great room. That offensive line room, that's a room that is great for a young player. I thought he got better as the season went on."

Jones was a Saturday scratch for the Week 14 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars after being listed as questionable originally and we now see why. Stefanski originally said he tweaked his knee in practice on Friday, but test results proved it was worse.

James Hudson will take over for Jones and he’s already made three starts this season as a swing tackle. Cleveland has Jedrick Wills Jr. on the injured reserve, but could soon return.

It’s an unfortunate end for Jones’ rookie season that looked very promising.
