A third different candidate has come about for the Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator job that is open.

Cleveland will reportedly interview Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson for the open gig. Texans knocked Cleveland out of the playoffs a week ago and it was the Houston offense rolling to a 45-14 wild-card win.

Johnson has been the quarterbacks coach for rookie C.J. Stroud this season and we’ve all witnessed the year that he has been able to put together. Johnson is in his first year with the Texans and it is looking like his stint there may not be all that long.

Before joining the Texans, Johnson was the assistant quarterbacks coach for the Minnesota Vikings for one season in 2022. The 35-year-old former pro quarterback got his coaching start with the San Francisco 49ers as a recipient of the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship.

Cleveland now has Seattle Seahawks offensive line coach Andy Dickerson, former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey, and Johnson as potential hires for the coordinator job.

The Browns know that the offense needs to work in 2024 with Deshaun Watson back at the helm and healthy. Whatever hire they settle on will be important.

Expect the pace to pick up and the Browns very well could make a hire next week at some point. Three targets have came about and another name or two could soon come out.
