Bad Injury news in Berea
Backup running back Jerome Ford hobbled off of the field and went inside with a trainer. At this time, there is no word on the severity. Any lengthy injury to Ford could be a big problem, as he’s the only legit backup option right now. Even Ford, there are questions on just how good can he be.
Ford just spoke yesterday about how he has ‘big shoes’ to fill.
Near the end of practice, backup offensive lineman Drew Forbes was carted off with what is being called a back injury. Forbes is battling for a backup guard spot on the roster. Losing Forbes would hurt for obvious depth reasons.
Prior to practice, Kevin Stefanski revealed that Isaiah Thomas and Alex Wright have injuries that could sideline them into the season. Tight end Harrison Bryant remains out for an unknown reason.
“It’s a medical condition. I can’t really comment on it,” Stefanski said.
Amari Cooper had a veteran day off, as did Denzel Ward, Jack Conklin, Za’Darius Smith, and Rodney McLeod.
Good injury news in Berea
It wasn’t all bad on the injury front, as the Browns had some guys take part in team drills who hadn’t really yet. Return man and wide receiver Jakeem Grant did so for the first time this training camp after tearing his Achilles last camp. Grant is fighting for a roster spot and this is a good step in the right direction for him.
Both linebackers Sione Takitaki and Anthony Walker Jr. participated in 11-on-11 action. Both linebackers are expected to start for Cleveland at the MIKE and SAM spots. Walker and Takitaki seem to be on par to play week 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Browns’ offense wins the day
It was a day for the offense, specifically in red-zone action. Cleveland’s first-string offense converted touchdowns on 6-of-8 attempts, including five straight. Deshaun Watson connected with David Njoku, David Bell, Anthony Schwartz, and Elijah Moore for touchdowns notably.
On the defensive side of the ball, Ward and Smith had veteran days off, as mentioned earlier. You could tell that Ward was missed in coverage for the defense today.
Cleveland doesn’t have practice on Tuesday and will be back on the field in Berea on Wednesday ahead of their preseason game against Washington on Friday.
Browns defensive end depth takes major hit due to injuries
Not the injury news the Cleveland Browns wanted to start the week.
