The Cleveland Browns are interested in a player who is trying to make it to the NFL on a non-traditional path.

Rugby player Louis Rees-Zammit has visited with the Browns and they’re one of a few teams that are interested in the international player. The New York Jets are the other team that has some interest.

Rees-Zammit joined the NFL’s International Pathway Program in January. The rugby player is trying out as a running back, wide receiver, or a return man. He runs a sub 4.5 40-yard dash.

While making the NFL seems like a much tougher path as an international prospect, it isn’t possible and there are rugby players in the NFL. Philadelphia Eagles’ Jordan Mailata is one player that comes to mind.

“Catching kickoffs, catch and kick receipts, punt receipts, there’s a lot of transferable skills, and I think running back shows up probably best, getting the ball in my hand early, being able to pick a gap,” Rees-Zammit said via AP.

Teams will be able to keep an extra player on their practice squad if he is an international player. It appears that the Browns could be interested in one already.
