Teams around the NFL are doing all the work they can on potential draft picks leading up to the draft at the end of this month.
The Cleveland Browns are visiting with a speedy wide receiver in Mississippi State WR Tulu Griffin, according to The Draft Network’s Justin Melo. Such a visit for the Browns foreshadows what they may be looking for in the draft.
Cleveland wants to be able to hit the big play more often
Last season it seemed that explosive plays were hard to come by at points in the season mainly with Nick Chubb out. The Browns have playmakers, but you can never have enough of them and that’s what they’re likely looking to add to.
Griffin is a 5-foot-10 wide receiver who is explosive with the ball in his hands and runs a 40-yard dash in the low 4.4s. As a senior, Griffin caught 50 passes for 658 yards and four touchdowns. He added a touchdown on the ground and had 74 yards rushing on 17 attempts.
Cleveland could be interested in a prospect like Griffin who doubles as a returner, something that could be more important with the new kickoff rule.
Deshaun Watson and the offense need to hit the ground running in 2024 with no ramp-up period that there has been in the past. One point is being able to hit bigger plays. It helps when there are athletes on the field that can make a play in open space.
Griffin’s ability to be a returner is going to likely be valuable to any team that targets him because he’s going to be a slot receiver one would think. If the Browns want the Mississippi State prospect they could likely target him in the later part of the draft.
Cleveland is actively telling us what kind of player they may be looking to add in the draft. One that could cause some fireworks on Sunday afternoons.
