The second preseason game for the Cleveland Browns came with an unfortunate injury to a safety that is no longer with the team.
Bubba Bolden was removed from the injured reserve and waived with an injury settlement on Wednesday.
Earlier in the week, Bolden had been placed on the injured reserve following a hamstring injury against the Commanders. There has been no word on how serious that injury is.
This is how injury settlements work in the NFL: When a player/team agrees on a settlement, they price out the number of games the player would have missed while on IR. So, if both parties agree a player would've missed six games, the franchise will cut him a check for 6/17ths of the player's base salary for that season.
Bolden’s cap number for 2023 was listed at $450k.
As an undrafted free agent out of Miami in 2022, Bolden is yet to play an official game in the NFL. The 24-year-old spent time with the Browns’ practice squad last season, too.
In the first preseason game against the New York Jets a couple of weeks ago, Bolden was able to record an interception to seal the win.
If the injury isn’t too bad, don’t be surprised if Bolden is on the practice squad with the Browns this year. For now, he’s got some cash to get him through with this settlement.
Browns are once again making a bad decision
The Browns simply could have done better.
