Week 17 of the 2023 season will be one that Cleveland Browns QB Joe Flacco remembers forever.
When the Browns picked up win No. 11 in defeat of the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football, Flacco had his most special supporters in attendance.
The veteran quarterback’s five kids ages 11, 10, 8, 7, and 5 got to see their dad lead the Browns to just their second playoff appearance in recent memory. He admitted after the game that it was special to him and something that he will never forget.
“Yeah, I mean, you don’t know how many of these moments you’re going to get,” Flacco explained after the win. “Not too many people (in the NFL) get the opportunity to have kids as old as mine and that understand what’s going on—get to witness this. And I think it’s cool for them, but ultimately it’s cool for me. I’m going to remember this for the rest of my life. And anything that you get to do with people that you love, especially your children, they just make everything that much more special.”
The family picked a great night to come out and enjoy a football game because their dad led a Browns’ offense that put up fireworks early. Flacco tossed three touchdowns and threw for 309 yards, but 296 of those came in the first half alone.
Back in 2012, Flacco won a Super Bowl but that was before he had five children. For them to now be old enough to take in these moments, it’s not only special to him but it is something they’ll forever remember as well.
For the second time in four years, the Browns will be playing January football. Just six weeks ago, Flacco was watching football from home and now he is 4-1 as the team’s starter.
It was a special one in many ways on Thursday night, but Flacco’s story may stand out more than any.
