A pair of Cleveland Browns wide receivers now have a ton of pressure on them in 2023.
Wideout Amari Cooper made a bold take on what he and WR Elijah Moore can be for the 2023 Browns’ offense.
“We’re going to be a great tandem together, you know? I think about great tandems like Torry Holt and Isaac Booth. You know, that’s what I think we could be,” Cooper said confidently.
That is quite the take considering the great Rams duo combined for over 28k receiving yards. Holt and Booth recorded a total of 165 touchdowns in their careers combined.
So far in the NFL tenures of Cooper and Moore, there are 9,220 receiving yards combined. All but 984 of those receiving yards belong to Cooper, as Moore is entering just his third season.
“He’s a great compliment to the offense, great compliment to me,” Cooper said of Moore. “We both run really good routes, both create separation. We both get open, and we’re both reliable.”
This is a bold take by comparing themselves to perhaps the best wideout duo ever. When you look at the fact that Moore took a step back to 446 receiving yards in his season from 538 as a rookie, it becomes a bit more questionable.
Of course, Moore was shipped to Cleveland where he hopes to reach his ceiling. One of the factors will be more consistent quarterback play.
When talking to the media on Monday, Cooper revealed that he thinks Deshaun Watson is back to himself after a rough six-game acclimation last year.
“I asked him personally. He’s a lot more comfortable. Obviously, him not played for almost two years, when he first came back, he was just trying to get back to where he was. And I think just from talking to him, he feels like he’s back to him.”
If Watson is back to his pre-2020 play, perhaps both of these wide receivers are due for big seasons.
Only time will tell if Cooper and Moore will reach a very high level of play together. Cleveland has gotten creative with how they’re using Moore, including out of the backfield.
The bottom line is that the Browns don’t need Cooper and Moore to be comparable to an all-time great duo. They just need them to be very good football players that are dependable and this offense could really take off.
Shelby Harris had one main reason why he chose to sign with the Browns
The reasoning is one that Cleveland fans are not used to.
