Several aspects of the game went wrong for the Cleveland Browns against the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

But the main contributor to the loss was a weakness in the run defense that Broncos head coach Sean Payton celebrated following his 29-12 win.

"This was a week that I would’ve guessed he was going to have good rushing yards because there were a number of good examples of zone reads," Payton said of Russell Wilson's designed quarterback runs that dismantled the Browns. "The way their ends played and the way they played defensively, we kind of felt like that package of offensive plays that gave him opportunities to run were going to be really good."

Wilson, against the Browns, ran 11 times for 32 yards and a touchdown. All game, Wilson used his legs to evade a typically stout Cleveland defense, which will need to go back to the drawing board heading into Week 13.

What doomed Cleveland with Wilson's well-timed runs comes from the aggressive rush the defense utilizes.

Time and time again, Wilson used that same aggression to hurt the Browns, making it difficult to stop Denver on third down and in the red zone.

Denver rushed for 169 yards on 39 attempts, imposing its will on Cleveland's defense.

"This was one of the first games where going into the game, I would’ve said, ‘Hey, he’s going to have a positive impact rushing the football,'" Payton said of Wilson.

Moving forward, figuring out how to stop the run will be central to Cleveland's success amid continued quarterback uncertainty.
